WESTBROOK, CT – The tranquility of Westbrook’s Oxford Academy was disturbed last Friday night when an unidentified student allegedly attacked a peer with an axe. The suspect, now under arrest, faces a charge of attempted murder.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Friday night at the Boston Post Road private boarding school. State police responded to a distress call that reported harm to a child. Upon arrival, the officers found a seriously injured boy. The victim was airlifted by LifeStar and is currently being hospitalized in stable condition.
School security footage captured the harrowing incident, which documented the suspect assaulting his victim and then taking flight. The morning after the assault, the precinct’s Central District Major Crime Squad was dispatched to the scene. The ensuing search involved multiple K9 units, a bloodhound, and a state police drone unit.
By the end of the weekend, the student was apprehended and taken in for medical examination before being placed into custody. The detectives in charge of the case obtained an arrest warrant, slapping the student with charges of attempt to commit murder.
Due to both the victim and suspect being underage, further details have been withheld by state police. However, updates confirm that both parties involved are Oxford Academy students, and their respective families have been informed about the incident.
