VICTORVILLE, CA – A solemn procession unfolded in Victorville on Thursday as the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department mourned the loss of one of their own. The deputy, whose identity has not yet been released, died in a tragic crash during a pursuit of a stolen vehicle.
The pursuit began around 11 a.m. when deputies responded to a call about a stolen car. The car was located, and the chase ensued through a residential neighborhood, culminating in a fatal collision at the intersection of Seneca and El Vato.
The deputy, stationed at the Victorville substation, suffered severe injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second vehicle, driven by a woman, was also involved in the accident. She was transported to a hospital, though her condition remains undisclosed.
Witnesses recounted the chaotic moments leading up to the crash. The brother-in-law of the woman involved in the accident shared that she was on her way home when the collision occurred, though he declined to speak on camera.
The suspect driving the stolen vehicle was apprehended at an undisclosed location, according to the sheriff’s department. The crash site is expected to remain closed for at least 15 hours as authorities conduct a thorough investigation.
Meanwhile, a 45-minute procession transported the deputy’s body to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office. Along the route, countless residents and first responders paid their respects, many pausing to salute as the procession passed by.
The fallen deputy, described as a dedicated family man with a wife and two children, was deeply rooted in the San Bernardino community. His loss is felt profoundly by colleagues and residents alike, who remember him as an exceptional individual.
As the investigation continues, the sheriff’s department is withholding the deputy’s identity until all family members have been notified. The community awaits further details as officials promise to release more information later in the day.
