Police said the victim was found with gunshot wounds after an early-morning alert and 911 call from East Ogden Avenue.
LAS VEGAS, NV — Six or seven people were detained for questioning after a man was found fatally shot Wednesday morning in the backyard of an east Las Vegas home, police said.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department received a ShotSpotter notification at about 4:29 a.m. Aug. 5 from the 4500 block of East Ogden Avenue, near Charleston and Lamb boulevards. A 911 call reporting gunfire and a person who had been shot followed the automated alert, homicide Lt. Robert Price said.
Officers responding to the neighborhood found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in a backyard. Police began providing emergency aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said he was believed to be between 30 and 40 years old.
The Clark County coroner had not publicly released the man’s name or an official ruling on his cause and manner of death. Police also had not said whether the backyard where he was found belonged to the home from which the detained people emerged.
Price said six or seven people coming from the residence around the time of the shooting were detained so detectives could interview them. None had been formally arrested or charged in connection with the death as of Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators had not determined whether those being questioned lived at the home or were staying there. Police also had not disclosed any known relationship between the victim and the people detained.
The circumstances leading to the gunfire remained under investigation. Authorities had not announced a possible motive, identified a suspected shooter or said whether a weapon had been recovered.
Police described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there was no continuing threat to the public. The department asked anyone with information to contact its Homicide Section at 702-828-3521. Anonymous information may be provided to Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
The investigation remained active Thursday, and authorities had not announced any arrests or released additional information about the victim.
