CHICAGO, IL – A fatal shootout took place outside of a Kids Foot Locker store in the Chatham neighborhood. The shooting claimed the life of a 29-year-old security guard on Thursday evening, according to the Chicago police department.
The victim who died from gunshot wounds was identified by his family as Sidney Cassell. Around 7:20 pm, Cassell was entering his vehicle on South Cottage Grove when he was approached by a blue car. Someone from within the vehicle opened fire, hitting Cassell three times, once in the face and twice in his lower body.
Cassell was quickly transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center. When he arrived at the medical facility, he was in critical condition. However, he later succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead.
Following the incident, investigators were present at the Kids Foot Locker store, where visible bullet holes could be seen in the window. No details about possible motives or information on the shooter have been released yet by the police.
While official details on the victim’s identity are yet to be released by the authorities, Cassell’s family has confirmed his tragic passing. They have created a GoFundMe page to arrange for his funeral.
