FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – A Fort Lauderdale man, Ronald Wilkey, 49, has been apprehended on charges of attempted murder and the unauthorized installation of a tracking device. Arrested on Monday, the charges arise from an incident that transpired on March 12 where Wilkey is said to have assaulted his girlfriend with a dagger-like knife.
According to the arrest report, the attack occurred after the unnamed victim picked up Wilkey, upon which he accused her of infidelity. In response to his accusations, he proceeded to stab her 15 times in the face, neck, arms, and legs. She was immediately transported to the Broward Health Medical Center after the assault.
Wilkey made a successful escape from the scene, managing to remove his probationary monitor. His capture was made on Monday by the BSO VIPER detectives. Prior to questioning at the BSO Public Safety Building, he was medically cleared at the Holy Cross Hospital.
It was reported that Wilkey confessed to his crimes against his girlfriend at the time. However, despite his confession, the specifics of his statement have been redacted from the publicly available arrest report.
As of Friday afternoon, Ronald Wilkey was being held without bond at the Broward County Main Jail.
