Premature baby tragically beat to death, father faces charges

The family of a 9-month-old baby, who was born prematurely, is mourning his loss after he was allegedly beaten to death by his father.

Khyro, the infant, was born with severe lung disease. He spent six months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), according to his grandmother, Kenya Buggs.

Three months after Khyro had been released from the hospital, Buggs received a distressing call that shattered her world. Despite having seen Khyro healthy and well just days prior, she was informed that he was in the hospital.

Investigators reported that Khyro’s father, Michael Fisher, brought the unresponsive baby to the hospital on March 17. On March 20, Khyro was pronounced dead due to traumatic head injuries, as stated in court documents.

Fisher was initially arrested on an unrelated warrant before being charged in connection with his son’s death. He was already put on probation for possession of a firearm by a felon. A series of other cases against Fisher in Louisiana was also revealed in court records, including charges of kidnapping and aggravated assault in 2020.

Buggs and her family are seeking justice for Khyro. She described Fisher as a dangerous man with a history of causing harm to others, emphasizing the need for him to be imprisoned.

Fisher is currently being held on a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
