Police Release New Details About Orlando Shooting That Killed 9-Year-Old Girl

Gun violence has claimed the life of a 9-year-old girl and a reporter in two separate incidents in Orange County, Florida.

The suspect, Keith Moses, is accused of shooting a woman on the morning of February 22 before breaking into the girl’s family home and shooting her and her mother.

According to an arrest affidavit released on Tuesday, the mother was taking a nap when the attacker entered the home, prompting the girl to run into her room and cry out, “He shot me!” The mother woke up to the sound of gunshots and realized she had been shot in the arm.

She then barricaded herself and her daughter in the bathroom until emergency responders arrived. The girl was shot twice in the torso and later died in the hospital.

The shooting took place in a neighborhood west of Orlando, where news crews had gathered earlier to cover the first shooting. The suspect left the girl’s home and targeted two journalists from Spectrum News 13 in Orlando as they were covering the initial incident, according to the affidavit.

Dylan Lyons, a 24-year-old reporter, was shot while in the front passenger seat of the news crew’s Ford Escape and died at the hospital less than an hour later. The other journalist was wounded but survived.

The suspect has been charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of first-degree murder, and one count of armed burglary. The motive behidn the shooting has yet to be determined.
