Police officer shot during traffic stop

MEMPHIS, TN – A Memphis law enforcement officer sustained injuries during a traffic stop when an unidentified motorist shot him and fled the scene. The incident occurred on the southbound lanes of Interstate 240 near South Parkway, according to Memphis Police Department spokesperson, Officer Theresa Carlson.

The officer, during the traffic stop, communicated to the dispatch center that he had been shot. The incident took place in the early hours of Friday, around 4:20 a.m. The motorist who was involved in the traffic stop managed to escape from the scene, leaving the wounded officer behind.

Officer Carlson initially reported the officer’s condition as critical and he was rushed to a local hospital. However, she later clarified that the officer’s condition was not as severe as initially thought.

The Memphis Police Department is actively investigating the incident. The suspect remains at large, and the department is urging anyone with information to come forward.
