FORT WORTH, TX – Joe Lock, a federal police officer, had to have his leg amputated following a shocking assault at his workplace in Fort Worth. A series of documented exchanges explain the dramatic incident that occurred at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing offices.
Juliza Aguilar, 26, who is recognized as an employee at the building, allegedly activated the fire alarm and then proceeded to seriously injure Officer Lock using her vehicle in the parking lot. Court documents reveal that Aguilar had sent her supervisor a series of worrisome text messages and emails on the day of the incident. Investigators assert that Aguilar was uncooperative with personnel and the officers present.
Officer Lock’s right leg was successfully amputated, and he is currently recovering in a Fort Worth Hospital, according to information shared on a public GoFundMe page.
Investigations show that Aguilar was offered a day off by her supervisor after expressing feelings of paranoia related to her diabetes medication. Following this exchange, investigators say Aguilar activated the fire alarm and vacated the building, claiming she felt “unsafe.”
Surveillance footage revealed Officer Lock attempting to engage with Aguilar while she was seated in her car. The affidavit described the violent sequence that followed; Aguilar dragged Officer Lock by reversing her vehicle and then pinned him between two cars.
Despite being severely injured and losing large amounts of blood, Officer Lock managed to radio in a description of Aguilar’s vehicle. Lock has undergone multiple surgeries and anticipates more operations and rehabilitation. His wife and three children continue to stay by his side.
Meanwhile, a federal judge has ordered a competency examination for Aguilar to determine her fitness to stand trial.
