One found dead in suspicious fire

LAKEWOOD PARK, FL – A quiet neighborhood in Lakewood Park was rocked by a fire on Sunday afternoon, prompting a swift response from local authorities and the Red Cross. The blaze erupted in a home on Lakeland Boulevard, drawing the attention of residents and emergency crews alike.

Earl Sanders, who resides just four houses away on Seminole Road, recounted the alarming scene. “There was smoke billowing from every vent,” he said. “I was worried it might spread.” Sanders immediately called for help, and within moments, firefighters arrived with their tools in hand, forcing open doors and windows to battle the flames.

The street was soon lined with emergency vehicles, and the area was cordoned off as investigators worked to determine the cause of the fire. Leon Russell, another neighbor, initially feared the worst. “I thought it might be something dangerous,” he admitted. “It makes you realize it could happen to anyone.”

A large command center was established nearby, and the presence of the Red Cross underscored the seriousness of the situation. According to the Saint Lucie County Fire District, one person was injured inside the home, while another resident has been displaced due to the damage.

As the investigation continues, the community is left grappling with questions. The Saint Lucie County Sheriff’s Office remains on the scene, piecing together the events leading up to the fire. While the exact cause is yet to be determined, the sense of unease lingers among residents.

Despite the chaos, there’s a shared relief that the situation was contained. “It’s unsettling,” said Sanders, “but it’s good to see the community come together.”
