Officer arrested for sexual assault

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – For the second time in less than half a year, an Oklahoma City police officer has been arrested on suspicion of serious crimes. Officer Shamar Kitchens, 23, was taken into custody over the weekend following allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence. The arrest follows a troubling pattern of similar accusations against another officer just months prior.

According to police, the incident began as an argument between Kitchens and the victim while they were driving. The situation escalated, leading to accusations that Kitchens assaulted the woman both physically and sexually. Officer Valerie Littlejohn stated that the victim reported being threatened with a firearm during the altercation, which allegedly took place near Southwest 15th and Mustang Road within Oklahoma City limits.

Details from the arrest report remain sparse, as formal charges have yet to be filed by the Canadian County District Attorney’s Office. However, an emergency protective order request filed by the victim on Monday sheds more light on the events. The document claims Kitchens took the woman’s phone after seeing her text other men, and that another passenger witnessed Kitchens dragging her to the car’s floor.

The victim’s account describes a horrifying ordeal, alleging that after dropping off the other passenger, Kitchens repeatedly punched her, dragged her by her hair, and raped her in the back seat. She further claims Kitchens held a gun to her head, threatening to kill her, their child, and himself if she reported the incident.

Despite the severity of the accusations, Kitchens was released on a $66,000 bond within a day of his arrest. This case bears an unsettling resemblance to allegations made against another officer, Sergeant Ryan Stark, earlier this year. In that instance, Stark was accused of kidnapping, rape, and assault, also involving a romantic partner.

These incidents raise questions about the trustworthiness of those sworn to protect the community. When asked if citizens can still rely on the integrity of their officers, police representatives emphasized that officers are human and subject to the same legal processes as anyone else. They assured that such allegations are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.

As the investigation continues, the district attorney has yet to decide on whether to file formal charges against Kitchens. The Oklahoma City Police Department remains committed to transparency and accountability, stressing the importance of due process in these serious matters.
