Nine people shot inside nightclub

A shooting at a nightclub in Wichita, Kansas, has left nine people wounded and two others with traumatic injuries, according to officials. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning at City Nightz, with police responding to reports of screaming and a large number of people leaving the club. Authorities have confirmed that all the injuries took place inside the nightclub, and while one suspected shooter is in custody, it is believed that there may have been additional shooters involved.

The shooting took place shortly before 1 a.m. local time on Sunday at City Nightz, a popular nightclub in Wichita. Police arrived at the scene to find numerous individuals fleeing the premises. Officials revealed that seven people had been shot, while two others had suffered traumatic injuries, likely due to being trampled in the chaos. Additionally, two more individuals sought medical attention at local hospitals for gunshot wounds.

Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple expressed concern over the incident, stating on Facebook that the two individuals with traumatic injuries had been trampled. He also mentioned that there were suspicions of additional shooters involved. Police have confirmed that at least four guns were fired inside the nightclub. Wichita Police Department Chief Joe Sullivan emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to determine how firearms were brought into the club and who is responsible.

Detective Chris Merceau revealed that the police had been called to City Nightz approximately 12 times in the past year, including a “drive-by incident” in May. Following that incident, the police had met with the club’s owner to discuss enhancing security measures, such as using metal detector wands and installing functional video cameras. However, it remains unclear whether these suggestions were implemented.

Mayor Whipple expressed his commitment to a comprehensive investigation, while Chief Sullivan assured the public that they would hold those responsible accountable. The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

As the investigation continues, authorities are determined to uncover how firearms were brought into the nightclub and identify all those involved.
