Parking lot shooting leaves 17-year-old dead

SAN MARCOS, CA – The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal shooting in San Marcos that occurred Wednesday night, in which a 17-year-old was the victim. The investigators received a distress call reporting gunshots near Los Vallecitos Boulevard and Bingham Drive around 11:30 p.m.

As per the initial investigation, the victim, along with another 17-year-old and one young adult, were spending time in a shopping center parking lot when they were ambushed by an individual. Lt. Mike Krugh of the sheriff’s department stated that an altercation broke out during the confrontation, leading to the suspect firing multiple shots. The bullets hit one of the 17-year-olds in the upper body.

The injured teenager was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital. Unfortunately, authorities later confirmed that despite medical efforts, the victim did not survive the injuries.

Investigations to determine the motive of the attack and identify the suspect are ongoing, with no arrests made so far. Lt. Krugh reassured the local community, suggesting this appears to be an isolated incident and does not pose further threats or dangers.

Meanwhile, the crime scene area remains cordoned off for a homicide investigation till Thursday morning, impacting local businesses and employees’ access to work. The sheriff’s department indicated that the area would continue to be in lockdown for several more hours.
