WHEAT RIDGE, CO – A newlywed couple en route to their honeymoon tragically lost their lives in a crash on Interstate 70 on Thursday morning. Ruben Rodriguez and Giuliana Rodriguez-Plata, along with Giuliana’s mother, perished in the accident, leaving behind their one-year-old son, Danny.
The accident occurred when a semi-truck carrying large plastic pipes overturned, spilling its load across both eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway. The couple’s car, traveling westbound, collided with the debris, resulting in the fatal crash. The interstate was subsequently shut down for approximately eight hours as authorities worked to clear the scene and investigate the cause of the accident.
Family members described the couple as being on the cusp of a new chapter in their lives. They had recently tied the knot in a ceremony surrounded by loved ones and were looking forward to their future together. Their honeymoon trip to the mountains was meant to be the beginning of their new journey as a family.
Survivors of the crash include young Danny and Giuliana’s father, who were also in the car but managed to escape with their lives. The family is now grappling with the sudden loss and the daunting task of raising Danny without his parents.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the semi-truck’s rollover. Wheat Ridge police have not yet determined what led to the accident and are seeking answers to provide closure to the grieving family.
In the wake of the tragedy, the family has come together, trying to find strength in each other. They are also seeking assistance to cover funeral expenses and other immediate needs as they navigate this difficult time.
The community has been urged to support the family in any way possible, as they deal with the profound loss and the challenges that lie ahead.
