Nevada mother arrested after fire kills her 3-year-old daughter and injures 2-year-old son

A Nevada woman has been arrested following a devastating house fire in Carson City that took the life of her 3-year-old daughter and left her 2-year-old son in critical condition.

According to law enforcement, Samantha Rose Paulino, 23, of Carson City had left the children alone in the home before the Tuesday night fire. Detectives reported that she mentioned she had gone to register for college classes when the flames broke out.

The Nevada Appeal reports that the 2-year-old boy was airlifted to a Reno hospital, where he is being treated for smoke inhalation. Although his condition remains critical, doctors are hopeful that he will make a full recovery. A 8-year-old sibling was in school at the time of the blaze and was not harmed.

Paulino has been detained and is being held at the Carson City Jail without bond, facing allegations of open murder and child assault which causes substantial physical harms. It is not yet known if she has legal representation.

Reports indicate the children’s father was working in Fernley at the time of the accident.
