PITTSFIELD TWP, MI – A horrifying home invasion in Washtenaw County resulted in the stabbing death of an 81-year-old woman, critically injuring an 82-year-old man, and harming their dog. According to local authorities, an unclothed neighbor allegedly carried out the unexpected attack.
The violent incident occurred in the early hours on the 1900 block of Breckland Drive, near Ann Arbor-Saline Road. Responding to the call around 12:06 a.m., Pittsfield Township police arrived to find the elderly couple seriously injured with life-threatening lacerations. The critically wounded woman was immediately rushed for surgery but, unfortunately, did not survive. The man, meanwhile, was hospitalized and is currently in stable condition.
The dog was also severely injured in the attack and was quickly sent to a veterinary clinic for immediate care.
The community is in shock, with one neighbor voicing their grief and devastation at the tragic event. They remembered the woman as a professional violinist and passionate gardener, while the man was often seen playing with their loyal golden retriever outside their home.
The suspect, a 40-year-old local resident, was apprehended shortly after the incident at a nearby home because of an urgent 911 call regarding someone knocking on their door. Before this attack, he reportedly argued with his family and left his home. Investigators have ascertained that the suspect doesn’t appear to have any known ties to the victims. It is not immediately clear how he ended up at the elderly couple’s home. There were no signs of forced entry, which indicates that the door may have been unlocked.
The attack seems to be an isolated and abnormal occurrence in the usually peaceful neighborhood. Authorities have marked it as a random act, with the possible involvement of drugs or alcohol not yet ascertained. The expected arraignment of the suspect is set for Saturday.
