Investigators say the woman’s husband shot her outside their home before turning the gun on himself.
HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A mother of three died after being shot outside her west Harris County home Friday, and investigators said preliminary evidence indicates her husband shot her multiple times before turning the gun on himself.
The Aug. 28 shooting happened in the 7400 block of Casuna Lane, where Harris County Precinct 5 deputies found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds in an intersection. Both were taken to area hospitals. The woman was later pronounced dead, while the man remained hospitalized in critical condition, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Gonzalez said investigators believe the shooting was related to domestic violence and described it as an isolated incident. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide unit and crime scene investigators took over the investigation after Precinct 5 deputies responded. Authorities had not publicly identified either the woman or the man as of the latest available updates.
The couple has three children, ages 4, 11 and 13, Gonzalez said. All three were at school when the shooting happened and were not at the home during the violence. Investigators coordinated with school personnel after the shooting, and FOX 26 later reported that the children were with relatives.
Authorities said the shooting occurred outside the couple’s residence. Based on the preliminary investigation, Gonzalez said the man appeared to have shot his spouse several times before shooting himself. Officials have not publicly described what investigators believe led to the shooting or released additional details about events immediately before the gunfire.
FOX 26 reported that a neighbor’s surveillance camera recorded the man following the woman along a sidewalk near Palm Gables and Sunlit Harbor shortly before the shooting. The station reported that part of the couple’s conversation could be heard on the recording, but the footage did not appear to show an obvious confrontation before the violence.
Neighbor Jorge Batista told FOX 26 that the shooting was alarming for residents because children regularly play outside in the neighborhood. He said an event like the shooting was not normal for the area. Authorities have not said whether investigators obtained additional surveillance recordings or what evidence was recovered from the scene.
The woman’s identity remained unreleased in the latest public reports, and investigators had not announced criminal charges. The surviving man was last reported in critical condition. Sheriff’s detectives and crime scene investigators continued working to determine the full sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the shooting.
