CHICAGO, IL – A 17-year-old from Chicago has received first-degree murder charges after he fatally shot of his mother inside their South Shore neighborhood home. The teenager, Davion Pryor, was arrested on Thursday and appeared in court on Saturday. He is currently being charged as an adult.
Pryor allegedly shot his mother, 43-year-old Tatanisha Jackson, four times in the head at point-blank range as she was unlocking their front door. Jackson’s husband, Pryor’s father, and his seven-year-old brother were with her at the time and witnessed the horrific incident.
After firing several more shots, Pryor reportedly fled through the backdoor. Authorities found Jackson with multiple gunshot wounds on the head and body. She was immediately brought to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Hours later, Pryor turned himself into police custody. The teenager already has pending charges of aggravated battery and vehicular hijacking in juvenile court. He was on home confinement at the time of the shooting.
During the court hearing, Pryor’s grandmother revealed that he had previously received diagnoses for mental health problems and had not been taking his prescribed medication. Following her statements, the judge ordered a mental health evaluation for Pryor.
Tatanisha Jackson leaves behind three sons, including Davion, and an older stepdaughter.
