Mom accused of starving her 10-year-old son to death

MORRISVILLE, NC – A mother in North Carolina has been accused of murder after her 10-year-old son was found dead in a horrific scene. According to local police, the child’s body was discovered malnourished and in a state of decomposition at their home in Morrisville.

An emergency call was responded to by officers at around 5:35 pm on Wednesday, resulting in the gruesome discovery at the home of 33-year-old Priyanka Tiwari. Despite attempts to revive the boy with CPR, it was clear he had passed away.

Police report that there was almost no food found within the home. The boy had rapidly lost a significant amount of weight in the last month before his death. Morrisville Police Chief Pete Acosta stated, however, that without an autopsy they cannot confirm how the boy died.

The mother stands accused of intentionally murdering her child with malice and planning, according to an arrest warrant. Tiwari was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with murder and child neglect that led to grave bodily harm.

Family members in India had been regularly phoning the home for months to check on the well-being of the unidentified boy. Furthermore, police had been summoned to the house at least eight times in 2023.

Members of the local community expressed shock and horror at the discovery of the boy’s body. One resident conveyed how alarming it was for a community known for being friendly and amicable.

The police were contacted in March by Tiwari’s husband, who requested their assistance while he was retrieving personal belongings from the home. At that time, the deceased child appeared to be of a healthy weight. A protection order against domestic violence was later filed against Tiwari by her husband. She now awaits her next court date on January 11, held in jail without the option for bail.
