Mass shooter kills multiple people

LAS VEGAS, NV – A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where an active shooter situation resulted in multiple casualties. The incident took place at Frank and Estella Beam Hall, the university’s business school. The shooter has been confirmed dead by the police, with three victims also reported deceased and another in stable condition.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department swiftly responded to the situation, ensuring the threat to the community was neutralized. Sheriff Kevin McMahill stated, “The suspect is deceased. We can confirm three victims at this time, but the extent of their injuries is still unknown. This number could change, and we will provide updates as we learn more.”

The university administration urged students to follow the “Run-Hide-Fight” protocol and reported additional gunfire in the student union. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents were also on the scene, providing assistance to local law enforcement.

The incident began around 11:45 a.m., with the first 911 calls reporting the shooter. Two police officers incurred minor injuries during the campus search. The shooter was engaged and neutralized by two detectives who initially responded to the scene. Sheriff McMahill commended the officers’ swift action, stating that their response likely prevented further loss of life.

A gathering of students outside the building was ongoing at the time of the incident. McMahill underscored the potential for greater harm, saying, “Without the heroic actions of the responding officers, there could have been countless additional lives taken. The armed confrontation with the suspect by law enforcement halted further actions.”

Following the incident, UNLV announced closure for the rest of the day. Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo confirmed his office was in contact with officials regarding the situation.
