LOS ANGELES, CA – In the early hours of Sunday, a chaotic scene unfolded in downtown Los Angeles when a man commandeered a police vehicle with a female officer still inside, leading to a multi-vehicle collision.
The incident was reported around 3:30 a.m. as the officer was performing security detail at the intersection of 12th and Figueroa streets. The suspect approached the officer, seized control of the vehicle, and sped off, leaving the officer on the road after she was ejected from the SUV.
The suspect, heading northbound on Figueroa Street, collided with at least two vehicles at the 8th Street intersection before crashing into a pole. Despite his attempt to flee the scene on foot, he was swiftly apprehended by the police.
The officer and several other individuals involved in the incident sustained injuries. However, none of the injuries were reported as life-threatening.
As a result of the incident, the area around 8th and Figueroa was cordoned off for several hours. Authorities conducted an investigation, interviewed witnesses, and worked to clear the wreckage and debris from the scene.
