Man admits to killing father before shootout with SWAT outside Glendale home, documents say – Arizona’s Family
A man called 911 and said he had been stabbed and shot the person who stabbed him. After that, he then locked himself inside the master bedroom.
Officers arrived on the scene after getting a 911 call about someone being stabbed at a family gathering. SWAT reportedly arrived on the scene when the suspect started shooting at officers.
Rafael Vargas-Olvera, 26, is suspected of killing his father and shooting at police at a home in August. Authorities allege that just after 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 25, Vargas-Olvera shot and killed his father, 48-year-old Antonio Vargas-Granados, inside an Arizonan home in Glendale near 69th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. A police K-9 was used to take Vargas-Olvera into custody.
Police were taking cover behind their vehicles when Vargas-Olvera started firing shots at them. One officer returned fire, and Vargas-Olvera went outside through the backyard with a rifle in his hand.
Vargas-Olvera was interviewed by detectives and admitted killing his father while being interviewed. He is facing second-degree murder charges, criminal damage, and disorderly conduct in addition to aggravated assault charges.
Arizona’s high court granted a warrant for Hooper’s execution on Wednesday. The attorney representing Hooper did not immediately respond to a message that was seeking a comment.
