Man stabs ex-wife to death at gas station

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI – A tragic incident unfolded at a Shelby Township gas station on Hall Road, leaving a woman dead and her ex-husband in custody. The altercation, which erupted around 5 p.m. Sunday, shocked the local community as it transformed a typical afternoon into a crime scene.

Authorities reported that the confrontation between the former couple, both residents of Utica, escalated into violence inside the gas station. Witnesses describe a frantic scene as the man allegedly stabbed the woman before fleeing, abandoning their one-year-old child at the site.

The swift response from nearly two dozen Shelby Township police officers and Macomb County sheriff’s deputies led to the man’s capture. During the pursuit, a deputy’s vehicle skidded off the road into a pond, adding to the chaos of the evening.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries. Her identity, along with the suspect’s, has not been disclosed by authorities. The gas station remained cordoned off with crime scene tape as investigators continued their work.

Police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, though charges against the man are pending. The child left in the wake of this tragedy has been safely reunited with family, specifically his grandmother.

This incident highlights the pervasive issue of domestic violence in the area. Local law enforcement notes that such cases constitute a significant portion of their emergency calls, underscoring a broader societal challenge.
