SAN JOSE, CA – A Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) employee charged with the fatal shooting of a co-worker appeared in court on Wednesday, where a judge ordered him to be held without bail. Duck Min Bowie, 33, is accused of murdering his colleague, Reginald Teco, in the parking lot of their workplace last Friday.
During the court proceedings, Bowie was present but remained out of the camera’s view. The arraignment was brief, with the judge ruling to continue the case to a later date. Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Michael Gilman stated that Bowie could face up to 50 years to life in prison if convicted of the charges against him.
The incident occurred in the VTA parking lot, where both men were employed. According to the District Attorney’s office, a witness at the scene heard three gunshots and reported that Teco was meeting Bowie to collect a gambling debt related to college and NFL football games.
Surveillance footage from the parking lot shows Bowie reaching into a bag, pulling out a black firearm, and firing multiple shots at Teco, who was a bus operator and father of two. The Deputy District Attorney acknowledged the profound impact of the incident on the VTA community, which had already endured a tragic mass shooting in 2021.
“We express our deepest condolences to the entire VTA community and the family of Mr. Teco,” Gilman said. The next court appearance for Bowie has yet to be scheduled.
