Another 23-year-old man was wounded in the Nagle Avenue confrontation as police investigated separate overnight violence in upper Manhattan.
NEW YORK CITY, NY — A 23-year-old Long Island man was fatally stabbed and another man was wounded early Monday in upper Manhattan, hours after Dominican Day Parade celebrations, according to police and published reports.
The man who died was identified as Steven Bodnar, 23, of Holbrook, New York. Police responding to a 911 call reporting an assault found Bodnar and another 23-year-old man wounded outside 141 Nagle Ave. shortly after 12:40 a.m. Aug. 10. Bodnar was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, where he was pronounced dead.
The second man suffered a stab wound to his torso and was taken by police vehicle to NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, authorities said. He was listed in stable condition. Police had not publicly identified him as of Tuesday.
Authorities have released few details about what led to the confrontation. Police described the incident as a street dispute, while other reports characterized it as a brawl involving a group of people. Investigators have not said whether Bodnar and the other wounded man knew each other or what may have sparked the violence.
No arrests had been announced in the fatal stabbing as of Tuesday morning. Police also had not publicly identified a suspect or released information about a possible motive. The investigation remained active.
The stabbing occurred during a violent stretch overnight in the Inwood area following Dominican Day Parade celebrations. Police said two shootings reported nearby were being investigated as separate incidents and had not been linked to the fatal stabbing.
In the first shooting, a 30-year-old man was wounded in the wrist near Sherman Avenue and Isham Street at about 11:46 p.m. Sunday, police said. He was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and was expected to survive. Investigators said four masked people fled west on Isham Street after that shooting.
About a half-hour after the Nagle Avenue stabbing, a 19-year-old man was shot in the leg near Dyckman Street and Nagle Avenue at about 1:12 a.m., according to police. He later arrived at Jacobi Medical Center by taxi and was listed in stable condition. No arrests had been announced in that shooting.
The overnight incidents came after celebrations connected with New York City’s Dominican Day Parade. Police have not said the violence was caused by the parade or that the separate incidents were connected to one another. Detectives continued investigating Bodnar’s death and the other attacks Tuesday.
