Man committed sledgehammer murder on College Campus

TORRANCE, CA – A local man has been taken into custody following the fatal assault of a woman on a community college campus on Christmas Eve. Jeffery Davis, 40, is suspected of carrying out the brutal attack at approximately 7 a.m. on the grounds of El Camino College, located in the 16000 block of Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.

The victim, an Asian woman in her early 60s, was reportedly gathering recyclables on the college premises when she was allegedly assaulted by Davis, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD).

The campus police from El Camino College were the first to respond to the incident, and the woman was immediately transported to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries on Christmas Day.

The LASD has yet to establish a clear motive behind the attack, but initial reports suggest it may have been a random act of violence. Davis was apprehended by the El Camino College Police Department later on Christmas Eve in close proximity to the college campus.

The LASD, who are now leading the investigation, initially charged Davis with attempted murder. However, following the victim’s death, these charges are expected to be revised. Davis, who was known to be residing in the area temporarily, is no stranger to law enforcement, although the specifics of his previous arrests remain undisclosed.

The incident occurred while El Camino College was closed for the winter break, and no other injuries were reported. The LASD continues to investigate the case.
