Man bitten by shark in South Carolina

CHARLESTON, SC – A 65-year-old man experienced a terrifying encounter with a shark while spearfishing off the Charleston coast on Thursday, as confirmed by the Coast Guard Sector Charleston. The incident occurred approximately 20 miles offshore, according to Petty Officer 3rd Class Vincent Moreno.

The man, who was aboard a 28-foot boat at the time of the attack, was fortunate to have a quick-thinking passenger on board. This individual promptly applied a tourniquet, effectively halting the bleeding until the arrival of the Coast Guard.

Upon arrival, Charleston Harbor Marine Police assessed the man’s injuries and confirmed that the bleeding had ceased. They then directed the boat to return to Charleston Harbor, where Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were waiting at Tad Street, adjacent to the Coast Guard Station Charleston.

EMS swiftly transported the man to the Medical University of South Carolina for further medical attention. As of Friday evening, the man’s condition remains uncertain.
