CARTHAY, CA – A disturbing incident unfolded at a bustling intersection in Carthay, as a man was violently attacked by a group of teenagers. The assault, which was captured on a cell phone video, has prompted Los Angeles police to seek the public’s assistance in identifying the assailants.
The incident took place around 5 p.m. on Saturday along San Vicente Boulevard near Cabrillo Drive. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, tensions escalated when a couple of teenagers began damaging the victim’s car. When the man exited his vehicle to confront them, he was swiftly encircled by approximately 30 teens on bicycles. The group proceeded to punch, kick, and beat him as he lay defenseless on the pavement.
Despite the severity of the attack, the man sustained only minor injuries and did not require hospitalization. Several bystanders courageously intervened, prompting the attackers, aged between 16 and 18, to flee the scene.
Los Angeles City Councilwoman, Katie Yaroslavsky, expressed her dismay over the incident, extending her sympathies to the victim and his family. She reassured the community that the LAPD is thoroughly investigating the attack. Yaroslavsky emphasized that although the attack is not currently classified as a hate crime, such violence is intolerable and those responsible must be brought to justice.
This incident follows a recent pattern of disruptive behavior in the area. Just last month, a large group of young cyclists took over Olympic Boulevard, leading to a viral encounter where the teens were seen vandalizing a Mercedes, jumping on its roof, and breaking its windows. In another incident in September, a group of about 50 young cyclists allegedly looted a nearby 7-Eleven, causing some of their parents to turn them in to authorities.
While it remains unclear if these events are connected, the LAPD continues to investigate and urges anyone with information to come forward. Identifying the individuals involved is crucial to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents.
