SUMTER, SC – A Sumter man faces attempted murder charges following a violent altercation late Thursday night. Authorities reported that Willie Sigler, 66, allegedly assaulted a woman with a baseball bat before shooting her in the legs on Old Pacalo Road.
The incident occurred between 11:30 p.m. and midnight. Responding officers discovered the victim outside, suffering from multiple bruises and a gunshot wound. After the attack, Sigler reportedly barricaded himself inside his residence, plunging the house into darkness.
Negotiators managed to coax Sigler out of his home, and he surrendered peacefully within an hour. The victim was promptly airlifted to Palmetto Health Richland, where she remains in serious but stable condition.
