Man arrested for throwing explosive device into Verizon utility van

BROOKLYN, NY – A man from Brooklyn, New York, faces federal charges for a violent episode of road rage. Kevindale Nurse allegedly threw an explosive device into a Verizon utility van. Nurse was reportedly operating a white minibus with his 4-year-old son present during the incident, which took place on January 31.

The U.S. Justice Department unsealed the indictment on Thursday, detailing how Nurse indulged in erratic driving before obstructing a Verizon utility van. As per the indictment, Nurse opened the minibus door and allegedly launched an explosive device into the driver’s window of the van, triggering an explosion.

The 36-year-old New Yorker was arrested on Thursday.

Both Verizon repairmen were injured due to the blast, the severity of which extensively damaged their van. They were attending to high-speed data lines and fiber optic equipment at the time of the incident.

Commenting on the incident, United States Attorney Breon Peace stated that the alleged deliberate act endangered the van’s occupants and others in the area. He observed that while instances of road rage were increasingly common, this particularly violent and irrational attack on a busy intersection was an exceptional case.

Nurse entered a not guilty plea during his initial court appearance on Thursday and was denied bail. Conviction could lead to a prison term ranging from seven to 40 years. NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban affirmed that actions involving intimidation, violence and destruction had no place in civil society.
