SURPRISE, AZ – A community is grappling with shock and grief as a man stands accused of brutally killing his wife, then transporting her body over 130 miles away. The tragedy unfolded when 56-year-old Brandon Gregory allegedly confessed to the murder of his wife, Alison Gregory, in their Surprise home, according to investigators.
Neighbors are still reeling from the incident, which has left a somber mood in the normally quiet neighborhood. A memorial of flowers and cards has been set up outside the Gregory residence, a testament to the love and respect the community held for Alison. Her family faced Brandon Gregory in court, where they delivered emotional statements to the man from whom she was seeking a divorce.
“Ali was not just a neighbor; she was a friend and a beacon of positivity,” one neighbor shared. The incident reportedly began with a verbal altercation that escalated into violence. Court documents reveal that Brandon Gregory admitted to attacking Alison with a baseball bat after she returned from the gym. The couple was in the process of finalizing their divorce and selling their home.
Valwad Vogel, a neighbor who had known the Gregory family for years, expressed disbelief and sorrow. “She was almost free from the abuse,” Vogel lamented. After the murder, police say Gregory wrapped Alison’s body in carpet padding, placed her in her car, and drove to the Borough Creek campground, located off US 93 near Wickieup.
The investigation began when Alison’s mother reported her missing after she failed to pick her up at the airport. When police entered the Gregory home, they discovered bloodstains on the walls. Using advanced tracking technology, authorities located Alison’s car at the campground, where they found Gregory with her body.
During his initial court appearance, Gregory allegedly confessed to the crime. Alison’s sister expressed the family’s devastation, stating, “We are left to support her 14-year-old daughter and a 20-year-old daughter in college. Our lives will never be the same.”
Alison’s mother delivered a poignant plea to the court, urging that her son-in-law never be released. “She fought so hard to escape him, and he took her from us,” she said. The emotional impact of the crime has reverberated through the family and the community.
Neighbors insist that Alison’s tragic story should serve as a reminder of the pervasive issue of domestic violence. “Let this be a wake-up call,” one neighbor urged. The severity of the case prompted the judge to set Gregory’s bond at $2 million, doubling the prosecutor’s original request.
Brandon Gregory declined to comment from jail. As the community mourns, they are determined to ensure that Alison’s story is not forgotten and that it raises awareness about domestic violence.
