Man arrested for murder after leaving hotel covered in victim’s blood

A 38-year-old man has been taken into custody and criminally charged due to his connection with a homicide case. This case was reportedly solved with the help of a security camera. Juan Gonzalez-Ortega was arrested on Tuesday and is facing charges of murder and the use of a firearm. The deceased victim’s identity has not been released by authorities to protect her family’s privacy.

According to the police, surveillance footage from the Value Inn in North Oakland showed Gonzalez-Ortega and the victim entering a hotel room together on August 1. Later, the same video captured Gonzalez-Ortega leaving the room, covered in blood. The incident came to light after a 911 call reported hearing a gunshot at the hotel on the afternoon of August 1st. However, when an officer responded, no witnesses or the victim were found, and the officer left the scene.

The following day, on August 2, the woman was discovered inside the hotel room with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead on scene. The Value Inn is located on West MacArthur Boulevard, near Mosswood Park and Kaiser Hospital.

In addition to the video evidence, Gonzalez-Ortega allegedly used his real name to rent the hotel room, providing further identification. Police have revealed that he has a history of prior arrests related to domestic violence, suggesting a potential motive for the crime.

Gonzalez-Ortega is currently being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. As of now, he has not entered a plea, according to court records.
