CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA – A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday morning in Citrus Heights, leaving the community in shock after a 28-year-old woman was fatally stabbed outside her workplace, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend.
The victim, an identified caregiver for a local family, was attacked while still inside her car. Authorities have named the suspect as 30-year-old Ja’Marr Mason from Sacramento. According to police, Mason was waiting near the victim’s workplace, targeting her as she arrived.
The homeowner, whose husband was under the care of the victim, expressed disbelief and sorrow over the incident. “She was more than just a caregiver; she was a part of our family,” she shared, describing the victim as a dedicated worker with dreams of furthering her education and becoming a hairdresser.
After the attack, the victim was rushed to a nearby Sacramento Metro fire station in an attempt to save her life. Despite efforts by emergency responders, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Authorities revealed that Mason has a history of domestic violence, with several restraining orders filed against him by different victims. The victim had also recently secured a restraining order against Mason, hoping it would offer her some protection.
Mason turned himself in to the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he was booked on a murder charge. He is currently being held without bail and is expected to make his first court appearance soon.
