The unmarked police vehicle was responding to a gun call when it collided with a sedan in Washington Park.
CHICAGO, IL — A 3-year-old girl, an adult passenger and three Chicago police officers were injured Sunday night when an unmarked squad car collided with a sedan on the city’s South Side, police said.
The crash happened about 9:33 p.m. near East 63rd Street and South Indiana Avenue in the Washington Park neighborhood. Police said the officers were traveling west on 63rd Street while responding to a report of a person with a gun. Their vehicle collided with a white sedan traveling north through the intersection.
The girl suffered a fractured tibia and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital. She was listed in fair condition, according to police. Her identity was not released.
A 41-year-old man who was riding in the sedan suffered a neck fracture. Emergency workers took him to Stroger Hospital, where police said he was also listed in fair condition.
The three officers — two women and one man — suffered minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals. Each officer was listed in fair condition. Police did not release their names.
The sedan’s 32-year-old driver declined medical treatment at the scene. Police said she was cited for speeding and driving without insurance. The citation is an allegation and does not determine legal responsibility for the collision.
Authorities had not released additional information about how the vehicles collided. Police also had not said whether the squad car’s emergency lights or siren were activated as the officers responded to the gun call.
