Girl, 14, Found Dead in New York River Three Months After Disappearance

The discovery of a body in a New York river has led to the investigation of the death of 14-year-old Samantha Humphrey.

Humphrey was last seen on November 25, 2022, in Riverside Park, Schenectady, when she didn’t return home after meeting up with her boyfriend. Her mother, Jaclyn Humphrey, launched a GoFundMe page after the incident that depicted details of the case.

According to the GoFundMe page, her coat was discovered in the river with blood on the hood shortly after she was reported missing.

A fisherman found Humphrey’s body in the area three months later. On February 22, 2023, the Schenectady Police Department confirmed the recovery of Humphrey’s body in the Mohawk River.

Humphrey’s family expressed their devastation in a statement released to CBS 6, seeking justice for the teenager’s death.

The ninth-grade girl was a student at Schenectady High School. Her obituary mentioned that she was born in Metairie, Louisiana, and that she had “lost a short but ferocious battle with evil itself, and passed into infinity.”

The Schenectady Police Department said it is waiting for the autopsy results before releasing any further information about the case.
