Police are investigating whether additional young people may have been victimized after an alleged September assault at an east Fort Worth barbershop.
FORT WORTH, TX — A Fort Worth barbershop owner faces two child sexual assault-related charges after police accused him of assaulting a child at his east Fort Worth business earlier this month, authorities said.
Hugo Jimenez Rodriguez, owner of Salon Hugo at 4075 E. Lancaster Ave., is charged with sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by contact, according to Fort Worth police. Investigators said the alleged assault occurred Sept. 4 at the barbershop. Police have released few details about what allegedly happened and have not publicly identified the child.
The Fort Worth Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit is investigating the case and is looking into the possibility that there are additional victims. Detectives said they are particularly concerned that other potential victims could be among Spanish-speaking youth. Police have not said how many additional people, if any, have contacted investigators since the arrest was announced.
Jimenez Rodriguez was being held in the Tarrant County Jail on a $200,000 bond, according to court-record information reported Tuesday. The charges against him are allegations, and the case has not resulted in a conviction. Police have not publicly released detailed evidence supporting the charges beyond information about the alleged incident, its location and the ongoing investigation.
The child’s family reported the alleged incident to authorities, according to local reporting citing police. Investigators have not released the child’s age, gender or other identifying information. Those details are being withheld as authorities continue the investigation into allegations involving a minor.
Police announced the case publicly Tuesday and asked people with information to contact Detective Lopez at 682-382-1509. Investigators also said resources and support are available to people who choose to come forward. The request for information is part of the department’s effort to determine whether the allegations involve anyone beyond the child connected to the current charges.
The investigation centers on Salon Hugo, a business on East Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth. Local television reporting showed the shop and interviewed a longtime customer who said children were regularly among its customers. Police have not publicly alleged that any other specific customer was victimized, and investigators have not announced additional charges connected with the case.
An appointed attorney for Jimenez Rodriguez was not immediately available to comment when contacted by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Tuesday. No public response from Jimenez Rodriguez addressing the allegations was included in the reports reviewed for this story.
The case remains under investigation by the Crimes Against Children Unit. Authorities have not announced whether additional charges will be filed or whether investigators have identified other alleged victims.
