Florida man admits to murdering his brother

LARGO, FL – A man from Florida is in police custody after he confessed to killing his brother early Saturday morning. Joshua Robert Brinkley, 41, was apprehended by Largo Police following a distress call from his home on 3rd Street.

The police were alerted around 12:47 a.m. after Brinkley made alarming remarks to people he knew. Upon arrival, officers saw Brinkley attempting to leave the premises in his car. However, he halted his vehicle, emerged with his hands raised, and admitted to the crime, stating, “I just killed my brother in my house.”

Following his confession, a welfare check was conducted in the home, where officers found the deceased victim with apparent gunshot wounds. The victim’s identity has been withheld due to Marsy’s law, a legislation that safeguards the rights of crime victims.

Brinkley was subsequently arrested and transported to the Largo Police Department. During his detention, he assaulted a detective, causing minor injuries. The detective was kicked by Brinkley, according to the police.

Brinkley is now facing charges of first-degree murder and battery on a law enforcement officer. The police have assured the public that this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Brinkley is currently being held at the Pinellas County Jail.
