Five injured in bike rally shooting

GALVESTON, TX – A motorcycle rally in Galveston, Texas, turned violent on Saturday night when a shooting incident left five people injured, according to local law enforcement. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. during the Lone Star Rally, a popular event held in the city’s historic district, The Strand.

The victims of the shooting were promptly transported to a nearby trauma center for medical attention, as stated by Kurt Koopmann, a spokesperson for the Galveston Police Department. The authorities have detained a person of interest in connection with the shooting, although no charges have been filed yet. The circumstances leading up to the shooting and the number of shooters involved remain unclear.

The Lone Star Rally, known as the largest four-day motorcycle rally in North America, had already attracted a significant law enforcement presence, which allowed for a swift response to the shooting. The event’s Facebook page indicated that hundreds of thousands of attendees were expected over the weekend.

The Galveston Police Department has launched an active investigation into the incident, leading to the closure of the street between 21st to 23rd Streets. Motorcycles and other properties in the area have been cordoned off until the completion of the investigation.

Galveston, an island city located on the Gulf Coast of Texas, is approximately 50 miles from Houston.
