Female runner shot in the head near trailhead

HERMITAGE, TN – A 20-year-old woman was tragically found shot in the head near a trailhead at Alta Lake Greenway, sparking ongoing investigations by Metro Nashville Police. Identified as Jamani Parker, she was discovered unresponsive by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employees on Sunday morning.

Despite prompt medical intervention, Parker succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Preliminary findings from the medical examiner indicate a fatal gunshot, yet details about the lead-up to the incident remain scarce.

Visitors and residents alike expressed their surprise and concern over the safety of the community trail. One visitor, Ralph, commented on the visible presence of families and potential witnesses, making the location feel deceptively secure.

The unsettling event has renewed dialogues about women’s safety in public spaces. Caroline Holland, Founder of Chicks with Kicks- a group advocating for female runner’s safety- emphasized the perpetual vulnerability faced by women. She recommends running in groups, ensuring someone is aware of your location, and maintaining alertness, including the judicious use of headphones and keeping an eye on fellow trail-goers.

As the community reels from this tragedy, Carolyn echoes a sentiment of caution, saying, “I’m just cautious of where I go, and I don’t go alone.”
Metro Police have declared no immediate public threat but have yet to apprehend any suspects. The case remains an active homicide investigation.
