MIAMI, FL – A man has been taken into custody, accused of threatening an Uber driver at gunpoint earlier this week. The suspect, Brant Williams, 33, is also facing charges for allegedly brandishing a firearm at individuals in a downtown Miami park, according to court documents.
Authorities detailed that Williams was apprehended after reportedly pointing a gun at people Tuesday morning around 9 a.m. at a park on Biscayne Boulevard. Witnesses stated that Williams threatened a woman’s life while aiming a gun at her. Another witness reported hearing a gunshot, leading to his arrest on charges of aggravated assault and illegal gun possession.
Williams, identified as a two-time convicted felon from California, was found with a gun reported stolen from Miami Gardens in July 2022. Just hours before the park incident, Williams allegedly held an Uber driver at gunpoint.
Police reports indicate that Williams entered the Uber around 3:30 a.m. on Ocean Drive, aimed a gun at the driver’s head, and demanded he continue driving. At one point, Williams allegedly fired at another vehicle before fleeing near Northwest 18th Terrace.
The Uber driver recounted to officers that he feared for his life so intensely that he considered crashing his vehicle to escape Williams. Later that morning, investigators were seen collecting evidence at the scene.
Williams now faces charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault, and discharging a firearm from a vehicle. He is currently held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Additional charges of criminal mischief are also pending against him.
He is scheduled to appear in court soon, where he will respond to the multiple allegations. The community remains on edge as the investigation continues.
