POMPANO BEACH, FL – A family is grappling with heartache and confusion after a man was fatally shot in front of his children in Pompano Beach. Authorities are now searching for the suspect, who is believed to be the victim’s daughter’s boyfriend.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred just before 5 p.m. on Monday on Northeast 28th Street. When deputies arrived, they discovered Keith Poole, who had been shot multiple times. Poole’s family and friends are now mourning the loss of a man they describe as deeply devoted to his children.
Barbara Santiago, a close family friend and the godmother of Poole’s eldest daughter, expressed her disbelief over the tragic event. “It doesn’t even seem right or real, you know, talking about him in the past tense,” Santiago said. “Keith was the kind of person who gave with his whole heart.”
Family members revealed that the suspect had been living with them for several months. The situation escalated when Poole discovered that the boyfriend had a gun in the house. Poole, who did not tolerate weapons in his home, asked the boyfriend to leave. An argument ensued, culminating in the fatal shooting.
The suspect fled the scene with Poole’s daughter, sparking a frantic 48-hour search. Fortunately, she has since returned home safely, but the family is now seeking justice for Poole’s death. “It was traumatizing for everyone,” Santiago said, noting that the shooting happened in front of Poole’s three children.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed whether they have identified a suspect or person of interest. They are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
