Father of 5 dies after being shot during work break

FORT WORTH, TX – The grief-stricken family of a Fort Worth electrician is demanding answers after his unexpected death, resulting from a shooting that seemingly had no motive or reason. Lee Douglas, a 36-year-old father of five, was the unfortunate victim of a fatal shooting during a break in his overnight shift at Refrescos Beverages, a warehouse situated off of Trinity Blvd in Fort Worth.

Fort Worth police records indicate the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on May 30, in the warehouse’s parking lot when Douglas had walked to his car. Lee suffered gunshot wounds on his face and his back, as confirmed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Although witnesses and another victim were present during the shooting, Douglas was promptly taken to a hospital for medical assistance. His family held their hopes high for his recovery following the traumatic event. However, the grieving father met a tragic end after complications during his recovery finally claimed his life on the subsequent Tuesday.

Police arrested the suspect, 18-year-old Decan Medeiros from Kettle Falls, Washington, a day after the shooting and charged him with murder and other counts of aggravated assault, including three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Coincidentally, Medeiros arrived at DFW airport nearly 8 hours before the incident and allegedly gained brief access to the warehouse during the shooting. However, no evidence of a foreseeable plan or the involvement of additional accomplices has been discovered.

The accused murderer’s family revealed that Medeiros possesses no links to North Texas and was merely present in the region for a DFW Airport layover en route back to Washington after a work-related trip on the night of May 29. The family expressed their disbelief and confusion upon hearing of Medeiros’s charges, sharing that they had previously submitted a missing persons report for him, unaware of his shocking circumstances.

The bereaved family of Lee Douglas has established a GoFundMe fundraiser to assist with the financial burdens of his medical and funeral costs.
