SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA – Authorities in California have released gruesome details surrounding the tragic deaths of a senior couple and their dog in San Juan Capistrano. The elderly victims and their dog were violently mutilated and decapitated, with the alleged perpetrator being their own son, officials say.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department officers responded to the couple’s home on Tuesday following a distressing incident involving a maintenance worker who was attacked by the couple’s son, who then fled on a golf cart. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Joseph Brandon Gerdvil, was later apprehended by deputies near a bike trail after a confrontation that led to officers shooting him. He is currently getting treatment at a local hospital and is in stable condition.
Upon entering the Gerdvil residence, deputies discovered a chilling scene. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department shared that they found the “decapitated and mutilated bodies of Ronald and Antoinette Gerdvil, as well as a decapitated dog belonging to the married couple,”
Joseph Gerdvil will face two counts of homicide, among other potential charges, once he is medically fit to be detained. Investigators are still trying to determine everything that led to this brutal act, including any potential motives behind the killings.
This horrifying event has shaken the local community, and the investigation is ongoing as officials work to understand the circumstances surrounding this family tragedy.
