Elderly Bronx Woman Arrested for Violently Stabbing 7-Year-Old Granddaughter

Maritza Yauger, a 65-year-old Bronx woman, has been indicted on charges of attempted murder and other related offenses after allegedly stabbing her 7-year-old granddaughter in the neck and body, leaving her in a medically induced coma.

The incident occurred on February 21, 2023, in Yauger’s apartment. The victim’s uncle discovered the girl covered in blood and immediately called the police. As a result of the attack, she had been stabbed to the neck, throat, and body, as well as fractured her skull.

Among the charges against Yauger were attempted murder in the second degree and two counts of first-degree assault. She was also indicted for endangering the welfare of a child. She was remanded and will return to court on April 10, 2023.

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark spoke out against the brutal attack, wishing the young girl a quick recovery after the horrific trauma that she endured.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and Yauger is currently being held without bail.
