The doctor will see you now! Power outage forces surgeon to perform VASECTOMY with energy siphoned from his own Rivian electric truck for patient who couldn’t reschedule -Daily Mail
Dr. Christopher Yang had to cancel several appointments and reschedule others after a power outage hit his clinic in Austin. However, he had to follow through with this procedure despite the limitations.
Dr. Yang used an Aaron 950 device to prevent blood loss during the operation, but was able to use other tools that didn’t require power. This doctor in Austin, Texas, used a power line hooked up to an electric Rivian truck to perform a vasectomy during the power outage.
A staff member joked that Dr. Yang’s 4-month-old Rivian R1T pickup truck could be used as a backup power source for a vasectomy. Dr. Yang discovered an extension power cord long enough to go from his car into the clinic, and decided to perform a vasectomy using the power.
Dr. Yang had a backup plan in case the power failed, but thankfully the power didn’t get interrupted.
The 20-30 minute vasectomy procedure went off without a hitch, and the doctor and his family had a good laugh together. Dr. Yang bought a truck in May and took it on a road trip to Colorado. He isn’t planning to use it for any more procedures.
