Dentist shot outside strip club after armed incident

Greenville, SC – A local dentist was fatally shot by law enforcement officers outside a strip club in the early hours of Friday, as reported by a county coroner. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 12:40 a.m. regarding a man, later identified as 57-year-old Matthew Edward Healey, discharging firearms while possessing multiple weapons in the parking lot of The Trophy Club.

Upon arrival, deputies and at least one Greenville City Police officer “encountered” Healey, leading to one deputy firing at him. Healey sustained at least one gunshot wound and was quickly transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Sheriff’s Office has not disclosed whether Healey had fired at any law enforcement personnel during the incident.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office’s public information officer has not responded to inquiries for further information. An employee at The Trophy Club, when contacted on Friday afternoon, stated that the adult entertainment bar had no comment on the incident. Attempts to reach Healey’s family dentistry practice for comment were unsuccessful.
