D.C. officer charged with assault and sexual assault following a drunken crash

ALEXANDRIA, VA – A D.C. police officer is facing serious charges following a chaotic night in Alexandria, sparking concerns over conduct and accountability within law enforcement. Trayvon King, a five-year veteran of the force, is currently on administrative leave after a series of alarming incidents unfolded Sunday night.

The sequence of events began with a loud crash on Russell Road, where King allegedly collided with a parked car. The owner of the vehicle, Howard Hayes, reported that the impact was so severe it pushed his car 40 feet down the road before the striking vehicle wrapped around a telephone pole.

Hayes, a former police officer, confronted King, who reportedly identified himself as a fellow officer. Despite this connection, King failed a field sobriety test administered by Alexandria police and was subsequently charged with driving under the influence.

The situation escalated when King allegedly attempted to leverage his position, pleading with officers to overlook the incident. However, once additional police arrived, the encounter turned violent. King is accused of assaulting officers and attempting to seize a firearm from one of them.

The chaos continued as King was transported to Inova Alexandria Hospital for a blood draw. According to court records, he made repeated attempts to grab an officer’s gun and engaged in inappropriate behavior, including making unwanted advances towards an officer.

Eventually taken to jail, King reportedly admitted to drinking and driving, expressing regret over his actions. Compounding the issue, it was discovered that he was driving with a suspended license, which should have been reported to his department.

This incident has prompted an internal investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department, as questions arise about the oversight and conduct of their officers. The case underscores the complexities and challenges in maintaining integrity within law enforcement ranks.
