College student shot dead while waiting for an Uber

TUCSON, AZ – A 20-year-old University of Arizona student tragically lost her life as gunfire erupted at an off-campus party last weekend. In the incident, three other individuals were left with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities confirmed.

The shooting took place around 1:40 a.m., Sunday, April 28. Following several distress calls, local law enforcement officers were dispatched to the scene on the 3200 block of E. 5th Street. Upon arrival, they found the victim, named Erin Jones, outside a residence.

Reports suggest the college student from Newport Beach, California, was waiting for an Uber when the shooting occurred. Emergency responders hurriedly transported Jones to Banner University Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Also wounded in the incident were two other adults and a teenager, found in a vehicle at the scene. All three were rushed to the same hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

The police believe a large gathering had taken place at the residence before the shooting, leaving several potential witnesses who fled before the police arrived on the scene.

Eyewitness accounts from neighbors suggested a chaotic scene, describing a wave of panicking young people fleeing in all directions. Officers suspect most of these people were fellow University of Arizona students who attended the party.

The motive behind the shooting is not yet clear. No arrest has been made so far, police confirmed.

Jones was a former student of Corona Del Mar High School, where she was a part of the soccer team. The loss of her life has sent shockwaves of grief through her former school and sport community.
