Chicago shootings leave 3 dead, 11 more injured

CHICAGO, IL – A spate of shootings has left at least three people dead and 11 others injured across the city over the weekend. The victims’ ages range from 10 to 54, underscoring the alarming prevalence of gun violence in Chicago.

The weekend’s first shooting occurred on Friday around 6:40 p.m. when a 54-year-old man was shot in the face on the sidewalk in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. He was targeted by an unknown assailant and was subsequently transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in fair condition.

Approximately an hour later, in West Garfield Park’s 100 block of North Keeler Avenue, two men, aged 38 and 39, were injured in another shooting at around 7:40 p.m. Both victims were on the sidewalk when they were shot by an unidentified offender. The 38-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition as a result of his injuries. Meanwhile, the 39-year-old suffered a graze wound to the head and was transported to Stroger in critical condition.

In Douglass Park’s 2800 block of West 12th Place, a 44-year-old man was shot around 7:47 p.m. while in the park. The victim experienced a gunshot wound to the rear from an unknown offender and was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Another alarming incident involved a 10-year-old boy who was shot in the Burnside neighborhood on Friday evening around 7:36 p.m. The child was inside a home in the 1100 block of East 91st Street when he suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Three unidentified offenders fired shots from outside the residence, according to police. The victim was then transported to Comer Children’s Hospital in serious condition, with his condition later stabilized.

Further adding to the weekend’s tally, a 23-year-old man was shot around 8:49 p.m. while walking in the 6900 block of South Artesian Avenue. He was ambushed by gunshots while on the sidewalk, sustaining a gunshot wound to his right ankle. The victim self-transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital and was reported to be in good condition.
