Casino winner robbed in parking lot

ISLANDIA, NY – An elderly man’s stroke of luck at Jake’s 58 Casino turned sour when he was allegedly robbed of his winnings. The 71-year-old had just stepped outside the casino after a successful day when he was reportedly targeted by 24-year-old Erin Hayes from Port Jefferson Station.

Prosecutors allege that Hayes followed the man outside, initially making off with a small amount of cash. However, dissatisfied with the haul, Hayes is accused of returning to tackle the man to the ground in an attempt to seize more money. The incident unfolded around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

A witness described the situation as frightening, urging others to remain vigilant. “It’s a scary world out there,” they said, emphasizing the importance of being aware of one’s surroundings.

The situation escalated until two bystanders intervened, causing Hayes to abandon his efforts and flee to his car. Authorities later apprehended him at his residence in Port Jefferson Station.

During his court appearance on Monday, Hayes remained silent when approached by reporters. He faces accusations of going to the extent of tearing the victim’s jacket pockets in his quest for cash.

Phil Boyle, President and CEO of Suffolk OTB and Jake’s 58 Casino, emphasized the availability of security escorts for patrons. “Anyone who wants a security escort to their car can request one,” he assured, highlighting the casino’s commitment to safety.
